With all these resolutions flying around in the Universe I am here to make sure you are still finding balance. We set intentions in order to enhance our human experience not hurt ourselves, which is a central idea to remember on your path. Hopefully you read my friend Jessica’s post on Goals with Intention which we talked about in my last post — If you have not had a chance to check it out, I highly recommend you reframe your goals with her help!
If you are a Joy Seeker you know I love talking about being present, I cannot stress this enough. Spontaneous right action is key to your happiness and having meaning in your life. Like I always say, the only thing that matters is this moment. You can’t be mindful when you are worrying about the future or regretting the past. Take a deep breath in and an audible exhale to let everything go and be here now.
My point is that when you are tuned into the moment you can make better decisions, especially when it comes to your soul container (your body). Before you take any action, check if you are aligned. What I mean by this is that you need to make sure that you’re acting from a place of balance. If you are really busy, tired and worn out; is it the best idea to force yourself to take a 90 Minute Hot Yoga class? HECK NO! NO, NO, NO, NO! Now you may be able to see this as a no brainer as you are reading, but imagine you did not take the time to check in with yourself before heading to class. I speak from experience, I mindlessly wander to my mat all the time. The great thing about the practice of yoga is that when we do land on our mat the practice is completely personal.
It becomes even more important to act from a place of compassionate presence in the moment at yoga, because the temptation to take very option the teacher offers can be very strong (at least I notice this tendency in myself). Just because I can do a posture doesn’t mean it is right for me all the time. Somedays you can find me chillin in the back corner in child’s pose for 80% of class and that is my way of honoring myself.
On the flip side, we also want to challenge ourselves and grow stronger/more flexible to live more comfortably in our bodies and get deeper into the practice. Coming back to the idea of balance. If you had a slow day at work and you feel sluggish from inactivity; is it the best idea to sit on your couch and watch Netflix’s till you have to go to sleep and then do it all again the next day? HECK NO! NO, NO, NO, NO! It can be hard to be this discerning when we are tangled in the stories that play on the movie screen of the mind. Imagine if you could have this much clarity next time you are making a decision? GUESS WHAT YOU CAN!
How To Have Clarity When Making Decisions
Take some deep breaths
Feel your feelings and tune into how you feel
Notice the thoughts in your head as an observer without judgement
Frame your situation into a question like the ones above
*BAM* you can change your plan based on spontaneous right action
